"ON JUNE 4, 2000 particle physicists at Princeton accelerated photons to 300 times the speed of light by transmitting them through a chamber filled with a specially treated cesium gas. The photons arrived at their destination, some 60 feet across the room, before they even entered the chamber. ON JANUARY 1, 2002, 1:46:23 PM, photographers at MUDHAUS injected this same cesium gas into the barrel of an 80mm f 2.8 Hasselblad lens and took a picture of...the future (1:46:25 PM). Careful calculations reveal that the effective speed of the modified lens is now f 0.0.
F ZERO ZERO: Photographing the future with the world's fastest lens.
WE STARTED TO WONDER how our concept of photography might change if our images were all taken 2 seconds before the event in the photo. The arrival of the new year seemed like a good excuse to focus on the future, so we have created this space to share with you, on a daily basis, the results of our exploration."
